So my two days in the city, i literally just sat around in parks, or on the beach with some walking inbetween. Darwin has a lovely park right at the harbour (can't find nice parks in asia) that stretches a long way along the shore. It was fantastic 'just-chillin-in-a-park' weather too! With a lovely breeze, it was nice to sit in the sun without sweatin. Darwin isn't too big for a city, and the capital too, only 20000 people i think so not a whole to do but i was very content with just soaking up the last bit of weather before i head south. I went to that Mindl market again, watched the sunset on the beach, got some Asian food...haha - relaxed!
Grabbed the shuttle bus to the airport, had another very late (or very early) flight at 1am. Unfortunately time to make a move down south for a dive back into 'normality'...
Stayed in the a hostel the last 2 nights so i could check Darwin out. No more cheap guesthouses or anything for $5/night, my bed in a dorm room was $28, just for a bed!! Ridiculous how different the economy is here...reality check! I will really try not to winge too much about how expensive things are here cuz that is reality. Side note - there was this aboriginal woman staying in the hostel, working i think but every night was got absolutely slaughtered and would pass out on the chair with a beer. Never understood the deal with her...but apparently it's a huge problem in the Northern Territory. Aborginals just using their gov't money for booze and lots have a big drinking problem. There's a bad joke saying 'what are you most likely to hit with your car here?' 'An black person'..not nice but true apparently. They get hit all the time cuz passed out laying down on the road or something. I could feel the divide between races, not much interaction between them. It's a shame but interesting. Apparently the Aussies down south don't understand why the northies have such opinions with the aboriginals but they don't live with them....who's knows how true everything is i was told, just an opinion really, but definitely lots of people's opinions - and definitely a social problem exists to be rectified
