Anyways i did the main tourist thing which was the mofo Royal Palace and Wat Pho temple with a hugeeeee golden Buddha.
. they both were beautiful and very colourful. I try not to focus to much on the touristy things but they were must-sees. Then yesterday went on a bicycle tour that went off the beaten track in Bangkok.. went across the river, it felt we were suddenly in the jungle, it was lovely, with houses amongst the nature and narrow ramps used for walking/transport weaving around the trees, water and homes.
The Thais are very friendly and respectful..i find the simplest things amazing when traveling - when queing for the skytrain (opposite to the subway/underground, way above ground) during rushour, there was no pushing, no rushing, no shoving, no budding, everyone naturally formed lines outside the doors and waited and moved along when their turn came - lovely to see!! Opposite to Africa when the culture is to push and bud and get your way to the line first and fast.
So I have had enough of the fast-pace city for the time being... this evening i am taking the overnight train to Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand. It's apparently the moutainous, nature area for trekking, witnesssing the hill-side tribes.. so groovy!! Thanks for coming!
Yello... welcome to Bangkok! I'm leaving though..ive been here for 4 days already and it's time to hit another town. It's very big and bustling as you might have predicted, loud and dirty but definitely has it's character as well. I stayed a bit out of the city centre so bit quieter and i avoided the red light district and crazy bar area... yes i am getting wee bit older now eh, like my quite time..haha. Ive experienced red light districts in other countries and expect it to be aboot the same...i've heard there is loads of old white men with young thai girls as the stereotype goes so no thank you! i do love all the steet vendors though - it's brillant - like mini-restaurants on the street corners... amazing what they cook just with a trolley - noodles, chicken, sausages, soup and some other non-famaliar looking things...everything is very cheap as well ie. sweet and sour chicken skewer for like $0.40...mmmmmmmm!
