A bunch of sand worth seeing

After a quick stop in Noosa (Mark and I were now travelling up the coast together), a little town, that while it had a little more well-to-do population than Byron, we particularly liked. It was absolutely gorgeous and had great surfing, kayaking, and walking trails. We elongated our stay there, and thank god, otherwise we would have had three days of pissing down rain for our Fraser Island trip.
Fraser Island, the basics: the largest sand island in the world, a major backpacker destination where packaged tours of self guided 4x4 camping
trips are the norm. Despite the fact that the 70 mile coast line is just a big beach, it's actually a registered highway. The island is beautiful and I had the most fun on this trip out of anything I've done since being away.
Our group was hilarious, it consisted of 5 English, 5 Irish, and little ol' Canadian me. There were many many other 4x4 groups on the island, but our group had such high energy and were so rowdy and crazy, everyone always cleared out when they saw us coming.
The highlights of Fraser Island included Lake McKenzie (a crystal clear blue lake with the purest whitest sand), Lake Wabby (a green lake set beside a sand dune in which to run as quickly as you can down into the water), Eli Creek (a fresh water creek to float down complete with a jungle boardwalk), the very photographic shipwreck, Indian Head (a headland with great views of the dunes and ocean, where you can see
sharks and turtles swimming by), the Champagne Pools (natural swimming pools made by the water crashing over rocks), an ultimate frisbee game on the beach, as well as lots of goon drinking at night and extremely rowdy games of Fizz Buzz and Eat my Box.
Luckily the weather cleared up for us and despite having a couple nasty hangovers, it was three days of absolute non stop fun that I'll never forget.
