The Three Minute Angels
Entry 5 of 41 | show all | print this entry |
|
After a month in Sydney, it seemed about time I stopped wasting my money, get off my ass, and get a job. Being as lazy as I am, I went for the easiest one to get.. one you apply for on the internet and have a big silly group interview for.
Now the 3 Minute Angels sounds like a flipping weird job.. and it kind of was, but it was not sketchy or dodgy or sick or perverted in any way, like everyone automatically assumes when I try to explain what it is. What we did, is we gave people in various bars or clubs, who are just sitting there chatting or drinking with their friends (completely clothed!), five minute neck and shoulder massages. To further legitimize this job, we also gave it to people at big offices. No, I don't mean in the private room in the back of the strip club, I mean real offices, with artichects and scientists doing important architect and scientist things. No happy endings, seriously.
It was as easy as pie.. they taught us how to do the massage, gave us a t-shirt, and threw us out there. Your job was then to convince people that they should have a massage.. and if they were to accept, you'd massage them, have a conversation so that they'll think you're cool, and then at the end, they give you as much money as they thought you were worth. You tell them ten bucks though, so they usually didnt give you less, but sometimes a lot more. The job was completely based on commission so the better you are, the more money you make.
Luckily I was pretty good. I got Angel of the Month for being the top Error: Photo does not exist in this entryearner in my first month there. Seriously though, this job was really weird and unconventional (sometimes I was shocked when money would actually arrive in my bank account), but so cool. And theres practically a whole Angel culture that went along with it. The bosses were all your friends, the other Angels were all awesome, we'd have group meetings every tuesday where you'd basically just get free booze and socialize. If we did corporate jobs, we often got free stuff. Sure, after a while it still became a job that I didn't want to go to, but I met so many more people and saw so much more of Sydney than I ever would have.
