A few years later and I'm just now getting some photos downloaded from the time I spent in Honduras. Here's some more random ones I came across that I don't feel like going back through my entries to see where they'd fit. And some don't fit and are from later dates. Alan and I continued to attempt to date long distance and I went back to Honduras several times to visit him and my other friends I'd made at the Embassy. I think I took three trips back in total: October-November, December 2003 and then finally in April 2004. Alan and I remain good friends to this day and exchange emails occassionally. Meeting him as a very important part of my experience there b/c I got to see life from a much more 'real' standpoint and experience things that none of the other interns could have hoped for.

a different point of view
I certainly understand the difficulty in returning to the usa after a stay in Honduras. My original reaction to your first blogs about this experience were ones of frustration and surprise and the naivete of your reaction to Tegus and Honduras. But then as I read I saw your age and realized you must not have been exposed much to the rest of the world and even the poverty in the USA before arriving in Honduras. As I continued to read I was glad to see that you relaxed and began to see the beauty and the happiness of the people in Honduras. I was also pleased to see you recognized the arrogance and loudness of the Americans upon your return to USA. To acknowledge that is not to dis all americans but to be truthful about the differences that exist in our american culture and that of the Honduran. Although my time in Honduras has been much less than yours, I was there in winter 2004 for 5 weeks.(we hosted an AFSer from Honduras during 02-03 school year while you were in Honduras) Then I went again in 2006- for 6 weeks. returning almost as you were writing this postmortum
I did not go as a missionary but as a friend of our student and his family. I lived with their family as a family member and experienced their daily life. I helped with chores, cooked etc. They are a middle to upper middle class family in Tegus. Although I have a husband and grown children ( your age) here in the US, and a fullfilling life, a dedicated volunteer, and wonderful family and friends....If I had to change completely my life. I would live in Tegus in a heartbeat. I am glad that you began to see the beauty not just of the land, but most of all of the people.
