Where I stayed
Lost Dutchman State Park
Tracy and I made it to a campground that I went to 15 years ago with Rob. It was a graduation trip (from high school that is)! It was a lot of fun going back and seeing all the change. It is way upscale compared to the way I remember it from back in the day. Not only that but the town has grown so much that the light pollution made only the brightest stars shine through. 15 years ago I got the best view of the milky way I've ever seen. It made me feel old in a lot of ways, but it was really neat being back and going there with Tracy. We made a cursory hike and decided we needed to stay another night to go for a proper hike the next day.
We spent the rest of the working on our aspiration statements and updated resumes at Starbucks (A big thank you to everyone from Kindred! The Starbucks card has been great)! Those are the introduction documents that the people in Botswana will use to get an overview of us and our skills
We took a long hike into the mountains and the view was amazing. We spotted all kinds of lizards and got some great photos. We took the Siphon Draw Trail up past the Basin to the 4300 feet mark. Saying this is just a hike doesn't do it justice. There was a good bit of climbing on the way up as well as balancing on boulders. We had a hard time deciphering the trail from other rock walls and once we were at the top we took a bit of a lunch break and just enjoyed the scenery. It's amazing standing atop a mountain looking over the valley which contains a city and seeing all the way to another mountain. Anyone who enjoys hiking would love this!
