On the way to Gila National Forest we stopped at Lincoln, NM which is the home of Billy the Kidd. This is the most authentic still operating old west town. It was neat yet suprisingly small.
We got back on the road pretty quickly after that, meandered through the mountains and vast expanses of nothing that make up New Mexico. Always be sure to fill up your tank when you see a gas station because it could be 50 to 100 miles before you see another one. We did actually pass on two of them, one was charging $3.85 and the other one you had to go pay inside a bar.
