Although Kansas is a flat, open expanse of seemingly never ending land (with literally no radio stations in many parts of the trip), they do have something that other states can not boast..the Oz Museum.
After a long night of driving with deer, rabbits, birds, possums and what looked like an antelope bounding in front of the car on desolate state roads I was not even allowed a colorful sunrise due to an overcast morning. The appeal of the Oz Museum grew mile by mile as a nice distraction. Of course we were expecting something small and cheesy, but John and I were pleasantly surprised. The full size figures were well done. There was also a long maze of over a century's books, cinematic items, and paraphernalia from all over the world, including the recent Gregory Maguire books, told a thorough and interesting history. The child in me is glad we stopped by.
Now I will try to get an hour or two of sleep in an attempt to not become temporarily narcoleptic later today.
