This drive is completely astounding. Imagine driving with the grand canyon spanning one side of the car as far as they eye can see, a desert in front of us with varying hues of orange and brown, and arid land to the right covered with tufts of bushes and a snow covered mountain in the background.
John and I just had lunch at the trading post in Cameron, which is part of the Navajo reservation. When we first walked in both of us got the momentary paralysis of an insanely large gift shop. This is similar to the flea market buzz. After looking at a few things we quickly put on our blinders in an attempt to find the restaurant. The shopping area was so large and mazelike we had to ask directions.
The food was excellent. I had the Navajo stew which came with Fry Bread (bread that has been fried and covered with butter & honey - reminded me of a fluffy sopapilla). John got the Navajo beef which was roast beef on top of fry bread (no butter/honey) covered in a gravy with onions and and a mild green chili pepper. Both were yummy! Now on to see some ruins.

When we were out west last year we were constantly telling each other "LOOK AT THAT!" every time we crested a hill or turned a corner. The landscape is sublime.
