Arrived in Buenos Aires on the ferry from Colonia in Uruguay, the sunset over the city looked fantastic. Buenos Aires is a wonderful city, the architecture is very European, it is said to be the Paris of South America.
There are many great districts in the city where you can absorb the atmosphere and watch the fusion of Latin America and Europe pass by. The area of Caminito is by the river and is very colourful, in the past the fishermen painted their houses with the leftover paint from their boats so the buildings are brightly coloured. I sat and watched couples tango in the sunshine and listened to the fabulous music, although being a modern city it still retains its nostalgic beauty and celebrates its culture and past. We went to watch a tango show in the evening at a restaurant, many of the musicians were old men and the venue looked like a smokey drinking den from the 20's, the tango music sounds very meloncoly and dramatic and the atmosphere of the place was captivating. The dancers were great and the passion of the tango filled the room, a great way to experience Argentina.
I visited Recoleta which is the cemetery where the rich and famous of Argentina are buried, it was like and exclusive village for the dead. This is where Evita is buried and we saw her tomb, there were many fascinating sculptures and graves.
So far Buenos Aires is definitely my favourite city, the food is amazing, the wine is intoxicating and music is inspiring (we all want to learn the Tango!)
