After another taxi we boarded a motor canoe for the three hour river trip to our camp, already the heat and humidity seemed ten times hotter than the city. On the boat journey we saw lots of birds and a few aligators, I just wondered how secure the boat was as I felt my feet getting wet and the aligators looking hungry!
At our camp we all secured hammocks in one room and then had a great meal of local fish and salads. After lunch we all went pirranah fishing off the dock, once you got the technique right it was easy, just a piece of stick, line hook and chicken skin bait and we soon had them flying out of the water, it was a bit disconcerting though when the person next to you had a pirranah dangling near your ear as they waited for the guide to unhook them - I wasn´t going near thoses teeth
From the dock you could also see pink and grey river dolphins moving up and down the river, the pink ones were striking in their colour and beautiful to see.
That night we went aligator spotting, the first being directly behind the hut where we ate, next to the ´swimming area´! We saw a number of aligators and caymen, when a 2 metre one flipped under our boat we got quite a shock.
The next day we took a jungle walk and in the evening we took a trek to a site where we made camp and slept in hammocks under the stars, the noises at night were unbelieveable and not many of us slept at all.
