Well, we've just reached our 3 month anniversary here on Friday & have survived!! In many ways time has flown, but in others it feels like we have been here a lot longer. Also we've been married 4 months today! Andy has just bought me some beautiful sunflowers.

Another busy week at work, the boss has been there & is here for 2 weeks & we always take a lot in from him, so that's good. He's happy with how we're getting on too which is re-assuring, and we've passed our 3 month induction period. He's looking at handing some existing clients over to us soon so that has shown his faith in us. The calling out which I didn't like has got better this week with time, and isn't so scary now.

Wednesday night the boss took us for a drink after work to Paddy's, which is the first time we'd been out with him since we met him in London in February, so that was nice. Ray joined us too, they left & we ended up staying for the quiz, coming 2nd to last....!! Meeting more & more people in there each time so really feel like it's a good local.

Got a nice suprise on Friday, I entered a competition in of the ex-pat magazines & won a massage! You had to state in your e-mail why you deserved it, so I wrote a little sob story about getting married, not having a honeymoon & moving here, starting new jobs etc. & that we need a little pampering!! Not quiite sure what it includes but it's at one of the luxurious spa's here so can't go wrong with that!!

Friday night was an Internations party, really good night at the LAN club - a very exclusive venue designed by the French designer, Philippe Starck. Massive Bacarat crystal chandaliers, famous baroque paintings all across the ceiling, huge mirrors, antique furniture etc. Everyone kept telling us about the toilets and that we should go, well.... we found out why!! Huge room, huge toilet, big chair next to it (so the girls can do their going to the toilet in pairs thing!!!) and a massive free standing basin with a gold swans neck & head as a tap which automatically turns on when you walk up to it. Each room had it's own lighting theme too, mine was red, some were purple, gold etc. and totally mirrored walls, far too dark though to touch up one's make up - not very practical!! Anyway, a great night with friends & met a few new friends too from all over the world.

Saturday we were invited out to brunch with some friends, so enjoyed eggs benedict sitting outside in the sunshine. Evening was time for bowling, the 3rd one which Andy organises with another guy, Rodney. Had about 26 people turn out which was great, some food in the bar across the road first, and drinks at another bar after on a rooftop terrace. The internations ambassadors came along too this time, and put up a prize for the winner of the 2nd game. Guess what..... more luck..... Andy scored the highest at 154!!! So we have won a night in a hotel in Beijing, a fab 5* Shangri La hotel which looks lovely, we have to use the voucher quite quickly to are hoping to book in for Friday night. It has a pool & spa so we can just relax, what with winning the massage too our luck is in!

Went back to the Silk market again today to pick up Andy's shirts which look great, so are pleased with what they've made for him. Came back & met friends for lunch & a catch up, so a nice lazy afternoon.

Last night a topic of conversation was the 'face-kini' hmmmm, I'd not heard of it before....... what we had heard though is that the Chinese women don't like to get any suntan at all and walk around much of the time with an umbrella to protect their faces from the sun, and prefer to be as pale as possible, even a lot of the face products here have 'whitening' in them which I don't like the sound of. To be tanned is associated with the manual labour of peasants working in the fields and pale skin indicates a certain status. So, the face-kini is just that....... see the piccies here to appreciate the full effect, and Colleen, there is an animal print one so I'll make sure we find one of those for one day when you visit!!!!

A few messages for home, Dad's birthday tomorrow so will speak to you then - hope you're having a lovely weekend. My cousin Tom who is off to Australia travelling - have a fantastic time. And to a good friend back in the UK who I've heard some very sad news about this week, lots of love & thinking of you all, it puts life into perspective & it really is too short. Stu, a very happy birthday to you for tomorrow too. Best wishes to Andy's Aunt too who's recently come out of hospital.

Enjoy the bank holiday all of you, think of us - we'll be at work, business as usual!! Our next bank holiday is in October, and it's a week off - yay!!!

Those 'face-kini' things are incredible! Just goes to prove, once again, how the culture is so very different there. People here spend much time, engergy and money getting tanned - and they do everything to avoid it. However, it did cross my mind that there must be some people who should wear one of those 'face-kinis' full time - rain or shine!
Congratulations on your two wins - nice to get a little pampering now and then. Can't believe it's only been three months since you left - it really does feel like much longer and you are sorely missed.
We've had a nice weekend - not exciting, just relaxing with a bit of work thrown in. A chicken is currently roasting in the oven (remember them??!) so looking forward to a nice feast later. It's Simon's birthday tomorrow so plenty more food and drink to look forward to. Just hoping we don't get too rained-upon.
Have a great week and enjoy your lovely treats!
Speak soon,
Much love
