Hope you're all having a good weekend, and we hear the sun is shining..... yay!!

Another good week, lots done at work contacting schools on their return from the holidays still, and calling previous contacts.

Tues night went out after work with Ray for a drink in Paddy's, then to a fab Singaporean restaurant around the corner from us, traditional Singaporean hawker food which was delicious & very cheap too.

Wednesday night was good old quiz night - were joined by friends Tracey, and Charlie & Dan - we still managed to do really badly, got off to a good start though by winning the first round, all downhill after that though!! We couldn't even blame it on there just being 2 of us this time!!

A chilled out Thurs evening, followed by Friday night out for an Internations party across town in Gulou, a new area to us which was good seeing somewhere else. Although the subway journey took longer than anticipated, the line we usually use at our station is easy to get onto, the other one took about a 10 min walk up & down & around!! A great night at a Columbian cafe / restaurant / bar, saw lots of people we knew as well as making some new friends, here we go with the small world bit again but 2 girls we met live in our compound in the same block, and one of them, a Romanian girl lives in the apartment directly opposite from us & we'd seen her in the lift earlier on! Think she thought we were stalking her when we asked her if she lived in Season's park!

Good fun, and a taxi home to bed for an early start this morning.

We set off at 9am to the Black Sesame Kitchen where we went for my Birthday evening, as well as the evening dinners they do cookery lessons too, today was how to make Dumplings which we'd had at the meal & loved them. It was the equivalent of 30 for 3 hours, it was fantastic. There were 8 of us, and they talked through all the ingredients & store cupboard essentials which was interesting, then we went onto make the dough for the dumplings. Whilst that was resting we leant how to use the knife properly, massive big kitchen knife, tall rather than long and very very sharp! We had to julienne ginger, mushrooms, smoked tofu, leeks (which look like our spring onions) and chop them very finely for the filling. This was the vegetarian filling, the meat one used some of our ingredients & minced pork, and pumpkin.

Once we'd finished chopping, the dough was ready to roll out, so we rolled it into a long roll then cut small pieces, making them into round flat shapes then rolled them out thinly into circles. Added the filling & made different shapes with them, wrapping them up, really they look like the fresh filled pasta, tortellini shaped.

Half were pan fried so they had a crispy bottom and soft on top, the others were boiled so were soft, then the best bit - we got to eat them!! We sat down in the other dining room as we'd made quite a mess of the kitchen table! Cold beers were served and the dumplings kept coming! They were delicious, and you kept thinking 'one more'...... ;one more'.......... then we were totally stuffed! A good job even if we do say so ourselves!!

Great to meet more people & different countries joining together chatting, guy from Japan who lives here, his friend from Japan who is visiting & left the class at the end flying back to Tokyo, a German couple visiting on holidays, and an American couple learning how to teach English here for a while before moving onto Taipei to work.

A wander & a coffee afterwards along the hutongs, it started to rain so headed back knowing how heavy the rain can get. Been chilling out this afternoon, and later on we are going out, wait for it....... seperately!!!! Andy is on a boys night out, about 8 of them starting at the Singapore restaurant then onto a few bars, and I'm meeting the girls, a few drinks at Charlie's which is only 5 mins walk from here, then onto a Korean BBQ restaurant which sounds good, many Korean restaurants here & we haven't tried it yet, and then heading to one of the bars afterwards. Really looking forward to it.
