Day 11 journal
"Its about to storm, but luckily i am safe and dry in a shelter. Did 8 1/2 miles today, just warming up for what is to come. The first 5 miles were pretty hard with a ton of up and down. Then i hit max patch and things leveled out and became more scenic. Max patch was basically a prairie on top of a mountain, its alot different then the scenery on the rest of the trail. After max patch i gradually decended through tree tunnels, and past a creek before the shelter. though it was a short day it was still hard on the body, ill start increasing miles in a couple days, 16.1 so far.

Im alone again at the shelter, but i did meet one guy briefly today. He is far ahead by now.

I almost stepped on a big black snake!
Someone just showed up :)
it my brothers birthday today.
its a kinda big storm... scary thunder 2 days of hiking till hot springs
used my stove for the first time to cook up ramen, the water didnt boil all the way, i hope i dont die."

Day 12
"slept in again today

just hiked 5.5 miles at a good pace with pretty steady elevation. Im at a pretty old looking shelter written above me is " No women no cry, Just hike or die" I LIKE IT! im eating some poptarts the next shelter is not for another 10 miles, but its to early to stop now, just gonna push on and see if i make it. Its been raining all day, and sadly there isnt a hiker log here to read through.

Turns out the guy i stayed with last night is a pretty hardcore speedy hiker. He is going from I-40 to hot springs and back in 3 days while carrying all his water because he forgot his purifier. He thru hiked a couple years back in about 100 days, which is very speedy.

Turned out to be 11.5 miles to the next shelter with 7 of those being in pouring rain. I must truthfully be crazy though because i enjoyed the down pour. it was a temperature control for me, making me feel perfect. It pushed me to, making me want to get to the next shelter fast and not think a ton on the way. In the end i walked 17 or so miles!!!!!!! it was pretty smooth but i am still proud and not actually that exhausted. :) only 3,3 miles from Hot Springs. A whole day early!

After not seeing anyone the whole 17 mile walk i came upon a girls camp at the shelter.... NO LIE! Being lead by a guy named clay who did ceramics, just a cool guy. They almost burnt down the shelter and were great entertainment for the night not to mention they gave me food. I am a lucky man!
pizza pita
and pancakes
The hunger has kicked in after 17 miles

we sang songs around the fire and i finally got a trail name

Freedom Train
