Where I stayed
Our route today took us through parts of Illinois and Kentucky, then finally on to Tennessee. We passed the Rock Island train line made famous by Lonnie Donegan. Officially the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific, it was a solid bread and butter line that, famous in the world of folk songs, served its riders and communities well. Lunch en route was another first for Mike & Jenny, who were very impressed with their beef sandwiches courtesy of Arby's.
We arrived at the Alexis Inn (not a Super 8!) and immediately realised that we were now definitely in the South. Not just the wonderful accents but the southern belles were in their finest. Mike J wanted to bring our luggage cart into the elevator and he asked a group of these polite, mature ladies if there was room for another one
Dinner was at Ruby Tuesday, a restaurant chain which serves simple, fresh American food. Mike and Jenny were enamoured by this place, and we were certainly made to feel very welcome (as we have been all across the country). The door was opened for us as we walked towards it and nothing was too much for them. Mike B thought our server reminded him of Joan from Mad Men, so he was set for the evening. Even though this was our 'early night', we chatted and drank and eat to our hearts' content.
Tomorrow, exploring Nashville!
