But not with out passing through southern Arizona and the most amount of catuses (I checked, that's one of the possible plurals) I have ever seen, and they're huge too, some are as tall as the telephone poles! Jane we would never have been able fit any of these bad boys into our alcove, plus I wouldn't fancy trying to fit one into the car, I still remember the small one we had (small in comparison to these) digging prickles into my shoulder while I carted it all the way to Wagga, these ones would leave scars for sure.
And just by chance I also stumbled upon General Patton's Memorial Museum. Smack bang in the middle of the Californian desert
Getting the petrol put me in a bit of a grumpy mood (truth be told I was already on the edge as I had a bit of a headache from the constant changes in altitude as I go from the mountains back towards sea level). You pay at the pump with your card here before you can get any petrol, but it's not a fool proof system. Sometimes it doesn't accept your card and other times it asks you for a zip code before it authorises your payment. With the latter issue instead of actually remembering a zip code from somewhere in the States (that would be just too easy wouldn't it) I just make one up, it's a bit hit and miss, sometimes it works, today it didn't. So I had to go inside and pay first, which is fine but you have to give them and exact dollar amount of how much you want, you can't just say here's my card, I want to fill it up, I'll come back in in a minute to pay and collect the card, no that's way too logical and easy, you have to guess how much your car might take, grrrrr! So I had a "I'm not a mind reader" spat with my cashier. Guess who won? Not me obviously, so I picked a figure, paid for the fuel, finally got use of the pump, and was my car full? No! Wrotten things, must remember to memorise a zip code for future purchases.
So grumpy, headachy and hot (you know I said a kingdom for a pair of gloves the other day, well I'd trade them for swimmers now - lucky I got swimmers in Vegas - it's 90 degrees here, that's about 32 degrees celsius) I arrived in the beautiful and glamorous Palm Springs, the favourite getaway from Vegas for my gorgeous Rat Pack, to a very cool retro style hotel complete with sun lounges and swimming pool, which is where I sit, sipping a cool glass of vino writing this entry
I may sit bit this pool all day tomorrow too. I know there's loads to see and loads of great Rat Pack history here, but the pool is oh so delicious. Besides I just met a lovely lady, B, who used to have shares in a hotel here in the 70s who has been filling me in on the celebs and the history, so provided we continue to have wine and sunshine I think she could be all I need to see here aside from the pool ;)
I'm even too lazy and content to take a picture of it, I'll take one for tomorrow's entry.
Gotta go now, the spa is calling me.
