Where I stayed
Cliff cottage bungalows
One of the best parts about our bungalows is that is has a fantastic big restaurant hang out area deck on the water with hammocks, cushions, tables, massive bamboo outdoor beds, and everyone is so chilled out, drinking beers, reading books, just sitting and lounging about, it is such an awesom retreat to relax in esp at the end of a busy day out and about - we would highly recomend this place to anyone who comes here. The owner is a scottish guy and all the girls (thai) that work there are really friendly and funny.
So far we have explored the island by taxi (which is actually just a pick up truck with seats on the back - you meet heaps of other travellers on these trucks) the roads are insane windy things between the beaches - today we are going to bite the bullet and get a scooter - cant wait!! The beaches are beautiful white sand palm trees, jungle, deep water for swimming - we had a great swim the other day at Lonely beach (with a million other 20 yr olds) the water is super warm wayne reakons over 23 degrees
Yesterday we went on an elephant trek ha, it was fantastic! We went on a two hour trek where we went swimming with the elephants, jumped off their heads (yes even I did that!) and swum in a dodgy looking river (a few floating elephant poos and so forth) we careful not to swallow or pee! Then we went up a rubber plantation into the jungle where we got to drive the elephants, kinda scary as the tour guys are real casual and just laugh at anything ( a big german guy fell off his elephant in the river and his seat fell on him and everyone just laughed) it was awesom, got some great pics.
Food is hot spicy small and delish - though i am off padthai after a few strange items t urned up in my last one (shrivelled brain looking things). Winners are the whole steamed fish, tom jum soups, the currys and cheap chang beer (7% alch!).
We are off to cambodia on Friday to siam reap where the big angkor temples are, booked our trip the other day for nz$50 each - its amazing how cheap everything is here! Our motorbikes today should cost about 200B for the day which is aprox nz$10
Anyway need to go, will try and put some more pics up
