There wasn´t much to do in Asuncion during the day. It was ridiculously hot, about 38 degrees. Our guide took us on a bit of a walk & gave us some history. They had a mentally unstable ruler about 100 years ago who killed 3/4 of the population in a war with Brazil! And only 20,000 of the 228,000 remaining were men ... it took them a while to recover!
After the walk we continued to wander the streets, though there wasn´t much to see, and it was so hot, we gave up after a while & retired to the airconditioned comfort of our hotel.
That evening after dinner we went to a Karaoke bar ... there were plenty to choose from! It was Friday night, & alll the locals love to sing. Saturday night was `Sexy Night´ in most of the bars ... the boys were sad to miss it! Our tour guide, a very tall gay german guy, isn´t shy (& also can´t sing) & got up & sang Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics. He had been singing it to us for days, so was happy for a larger audience! Another girl got up & sang some bryan adams, but all the locals can actually sing & intimidated us who were just there for fun, so we all went next door to a night club for a boogey and got back to the hotel about 2am. Who would have thought Asuncion, Paraguay was a good place for a night out???
We are on the bus all day on Saturday & spend the night at a little border town heading back to Brazil, then head to a place called Bonito, where there is snorkelling in a river & some exploring of a cave to be done!
