So after a quick flight, I found myself in familiar haunts. I booked a room at the Roongrawee Mansion, where I had stayed for the TEFL course in November. I enjoyed being back there, as the staff are friends, and it's close to everything. I was soon surrounded by my favorite restaurants, bars, etc.
One thing that hadn't changed was their hard-partying! The two nights I partied with them, we easily dusted off a couple bottles of Rum between the three of us (two each night!). We partied at Sofas (where they have sofas, of course), Kor Tohr Mor, and Chidloms. All three are great places. At Sofas, I had the pleasure of being hit on by a broad-shouldered ladyboy. I'm not sure which one of us had the thicker beard or the deeper voice. For both nights, I didn't get to sleep until after 6:00 am. Ah, how it reminded me of the TEFL course, only I didn't have to go to class the next day, which was great.
Monday was "get wet" Songkran day. Basically, Monday was a giant, all-day waterfight. I don't have many pictures, as I wanted to preserve my camera, but imagine if everybody in your entire country decided to have a giant waterfight, complete with Super Soakers, buckets of ice water (those could be painful sometimes), and, oddly, baby powder mixed with water which was smeared on your face frequently. And, this being Thailand, you'd occasionally get felt up or kissed as you went along.
So I met up with my best mate Scott ("The Wozzer"). Scott is somebody who makes you laugh no matter how shitty you might feel, so it's always fantastic to be around him. He has the tough task of living in Rawai Beach in a giant bungalow (poor bastard). Thankfully, his Mom and Dad are staying, and keeping an eye on him. We rode about on motorbikes all day, drinking excessively (what else?), getting splashed, spraying water guns, etc. I had bought a giant, backpack-equipped super soaker, and it was fun surprising folks with a sharp blast to the face! As I mentioned, the occasional bucket of ice water would hit you, just sucking the air out of your lungs! It was an incredibly liberating and fun day.
The next morning, I was back to the Roongrawee. I spent Tuesday sobering up, relaxing, catching up some work, and hanging out with a new friend I made. Wednesday morning, I flew back to Bangkok.
I had forgotten how much fun I have in Phuket, and it made me very homesick for the island. I must go back on a more frequent basis. I didn't get to catch up with my other Phuket buddies, though I did bump into Kai at a 7-11. I need to go back and catch up with my other friends. I think I will find myself there more often. After all, my liver hates me, and I hate it. I want to punish that little bastard as often as possible :-)
Peace and love to you all.
