For the first time this tour, we had shows two days in a row in the same venue. The nice part about that is that you get one day where you don't have to tear down the set, and one where you don't have to build it. This truly is a blessing. I was excited that we were going to be playing Philadelphia for two days, because I had never been to the city before. However, it turned out that our hotel was not in Philly, but across the river in Jersey in a town called Runnemede... far less glamorous and exciting. I could have spent the day exploring Philly after our show on Wednesday, but I was so tired and would have had to take a bus for an hour through Camden (yikes!), that I opted to just go back to the hotel and have a lazy day.

Five of us decided to head back to the hotel, and on the way we decided to get lunch together. We were craving Mexican, and both I and one of the cast ladies had seen Mexican restaurants the day before UPenn Theatre

. We passed by the one Malorie saw first, but it looked really sketchy during the daylight hours, so we went to look at the place I had seen El Tequila. It had great Yelp! ratings and looked clean, so we went in. it was delicious!!!! Definitely one of the best chimichangas I have ever had! It was a family run place, with people who spoke very little English. I love some good authentic food. The TVs were playing a fantastically over-dramatic Spanish Soap Opera, and our adorable waitress was kind enough to indulge us and translate some of the story lines. She was so sweet. When we were done, we all were so full the only thing we could think of (besides "delicious!") was napping. Later that night I attempted one of the infamous Wawa milkshakes... it was cookie dough flavored and quite good.

I'm sad that I didn't get to explore Philadelphia, and I would have liked to have seen the bell... but, oh well, next time maybe :)

The theatre we were playing was the Irvine Auditorium at University of Pennsylvania. The space was gorgeous. Not a lot of stage or wing space, but the theatre itself was stunning. Clearly it used to be a Cathedral, and now is used for orchestral concerts (amazing accoustics!) and theatre. Funny how that seems to be a recurring theme in history :)

I have a BLOG about Runnemede, NJ (http://www.runnemederemembered.blogspot.com) and I grew up in that town. It is typical small-town America, with a short ride into Philadelphia. When people ask me, I tell them I'm from Philly (not Runnemede) because like you said, who ever heard of Runnemede? But I have to say, I love the town, even though I haven't lived there for many years. I'm going back for long stay in the summer. I can't wait.
