The hotel was gorgeous, and we were staying on the concierge floor, so we had free breakfast in the morning and free hors d'oeuvres and drinks in the evenings. The first night was delicious broccoli cheddar bites, yum! It also meant we were staying on the top floor, which offered some great views of the city and the Superdome from my balcony.
The first night we were here (Thursday) we knew we couldn't go too crazy because we had a show in the morningread more about this amazing place and see some more pics. It's a dingy looking diner, where all the women behind the counter have about 3 teeth, and you ask yourself why you're here. Then you look on the wall and see about a thousand photos of celebrities, and you can tell by looking at everyone else's food that this is something not to be missed. So, I ordered the turkey ferdi. For those of you who know my food habits, I don't usually get anything on my sandwich... I'm just a plain kinda gal. But I knew this was special, and ordered it exactly as written on the menu. I was not disappointed. My sandwich came with turkey, roast beef, debris (the roast beef that falls off into the gravy while cooking), cabbage, pickles, mayo, creole and yellow mustard. None of those toppings are anything I would normally order, but it really was heaven on a bun! Delicious! Then we started to walk back to the hotel on another street so we could look around a bit more, and we literally just stumbled upon Bourbon St. Well, since we're here, we'll walk around a bit. It was Alex's first time on Bourbon St., and he is a fella that was BORN to be on Bourbon. I made sure nothing crazy happened tonight, and that this was more of a teaser for him for Friday. I stopped at Fat Tuesdays and got a Crawgator, a delicious mix of rum, tropical juices, dark rum, and brandy. I had to stop here, b/c we had a Fat Tuesday's in Gainesville, and I was feeling nostalgic... but I just got a small :)

We then decided that we should get some dinner, and we wound up eating at La Bayou. Again, another brilliant food destination. I decided to keep my experimental food trip going and order food I'd never had before. I ordered the crawfish cakes and gumbo. I was in heaven. So amazing! We also had a great waiter named Doc, who told us everywhere to go, where not to go, local favorites away from the tourists, etc. etc.
The next morning, I woke up pretty early, feeling great! David and I went and got a real breakfast at our hotel, with real eggs and bacon, and then noticing time was starting to slip away, ran over to the french quarter for the last stop I had to make before leaving New Orleans... Cafe Du Monde. From the moment I knew we were going to New Orleans, I knew I couldn't leave without stopping here. Too many memories of the beignets floating in my head from my last visit to New Orleans. So we ran over, waited in line, and enjoyed the best birthday breakfast a girl could EVER want. Tasty, amazing fried dough with a mountain of powdered sugar. No funnel cake or fried dough can ever compare to the Cafe Du Monde beignets. EVER! David had never had them, and soon was gasping at their deliciousness. SO. GOOD.
Sadly, we then had to run back to the hotel, to back and leave this haven of the Gulf. We climbed in the van and headed back to Alabama. This trip to New Orleans was the perfect counter part to my last. The last trip I did a lot of daytime fun, exploring the Garden District, and meeting the city. This trip, I got the emerse myself in the food and nightlife of the city. I had a truly spectacular time, and can't wait to go again, with a little more time and money, and see the city from all angles at once.
