I'm in Luxor now! Yesterday was a long day. I started in Aswan, woke up at 2:30 a.m. and then took a bus ride to Abu Simbel to see the two temples there. They were quite impressive. While I was there, I dropped my camera and I spent the next few hours trying to remove the dust and get everything tip top. I wasn't too successful since now it seems like when I use the flash, there is snow in the pictures.
After seeing the sites, we went on a felucca sail boat trip up north on the Nile. That took all night and we slept on the boat while docked. It was quite pleasant being so close to the water and seeing first hand how things could have been thousands of years ago. While lying down on the pillows, my head must have been about 4-6 inches from the water. Amazing stuff!
This morning we woke up and took a mini-bus ride to Luxor. On the way, we got on a pick-up truck which had alternator problems. It seems it had to be moving for it to start up properly. We stopped for a police checkpoint and the car stopped. The people from China in the back tried to start it up by running, but only after I started to help and run did we really get the motor turning! I am the best... Haha...
We arrived in Luxor in a police convoy and I saw the Karnak temple and Luxor temple in the late afternoon/evening. The Karnak temple is very impressive. The Luxor temple looks nice at night and since I only spent an hour or so in each place, I think I need to come back!
In any case, tomorrow, I'll be seeing the Valley of the Kings and Queens and I'll be heading back by train to Cairo... My "Teacher" card has paid for itself in museum fees already!
