Te Anau and the Glow-worn caves
Not much worth seeing in Invercargill so we headed north to Te Anau. This place is situated by the South Island's biggest lake (also called Te Anau) surrounded by even more steep and alpine mountains. We caught a boat across the lake to the Glow-worm caves where we were taken in a kind of boat inside the caves. Surrounded by complete darkness and silence you could see the blue-white light from the worms in the cave roof. The hungrier the worm, the more it would glow. It was a surreal experience and like being on some kind of weird drug

From Te Anau to Milford Sound
Afterwards we drove north through what has to be one of the world's most scenic routes: Te Anau to Milford Sound (the most famous fiord in NZ). Ancient forests and mirror lakes to mighty snow-covered mountains in less than a two hours drive.

At the highest point we drove through the only tunnel during the trip, only to be met by the beautiful rounded road down towards the fiord. We camped by the fiord after having a Milford beer, not bad for place with only 200 people.
