After saying goodbye to Martha, we left the car and took the Sky-train to Waterfront Station. Since we only had 6 hours for the discovery of Vancouver we were limited and we decided to limit our exploration to the Canada Place, Gastown, Heritage District, China Town and Downtown. We cruised around, got a Mink Chocolate drink, a crabcake combo and West Coast Style club, and - ofcourse - a fruitjuice.
By 3pm we had the impression we'd seen it all there and went back to 2nd Av. The car was still there and all luggage had been melted ;
I decided to drive already to Horseshoe Bay. Even we would had been too early, it must have been possible to walk around. But we ended up in a waiting lane and leaving the car while in the middle of the waiting lane was a bit too bizarre. Time for a book, typing my journal..
Lucky for us the village sold Haagen & Dazz Strawberry Cheesecake.
Just on the Ferry I gave Scott and Rachel a call to confirm our visit. Scott had replied earlier that we where welcome for dinner, but he... 9pm is rather late. So I was right. They would have dinner by 7pm (their little 5-year old has to go to bed early) So we ended up grabbing some sandwiches on the ferry. Compared to the US, Canada is so expensive! But hey, we're only there for 4 days, so it's not important.
Driving up to Ladysmith was a hell of a job. Since the maps on our GPS were not correct anymore. Recently they managed to build a freeway, and that one had no exits. So once you end up on the wrong road (the freeway) you end up at the end of the world and not where you are supposec to be. So it was only on the 4th try that we were lucky and that we discovered Hutton house in the middle of the forest.
We were welcomed with open arms (literally) and so was the belgian treat.
After a vivid 3 hour conversation, it was time for a visit to dreamland. The plan was to go to the other side of the island with a boat to sleep on a floating cabin and to catch shellfish and crab. Cook them on the BBQ and eat them.
I'm looking forward to this so hard. Just like last year the 'teach me hang-gliding' this part of the trip is the complete purpose of our days in the US ;) Not really all the rest is something to look forward to also, but he, Scott is the only one I know for already 5 years now.
