Hello from Tony. We are on a quick trip to Uraguay, mainly to see if we can fill all the pages in our passports before our travels wind up. (Mine being much closer to winding up than Clare´s.) Actually, Uraguay is quite a nice place - remarkably different from Argentina despite its appearance of being a pimple on Argentina´s bum - and a far more attractive location as far as traffic levels and crowds are concerned. Uruguay is so small, I am yet to find a phone number that has more than five digits. Some only have three! Even I could remember my own phone number if I lived here.
Clare is on the mend - in fact she is off riding a horse as I speak. Or write. Although we are staying in the town of Colonia, at this moment I am typing in a place called Carmelo. The fare for the 90 minute bus trip was $70 uruguanos, or about $3.50 in Oz dollars, so it hardly matters whether the trip is enjoyable or not
The cruise from Buenos Aires was in a humungous luxury boat of the kind that I thought I´d never set foot in. They had a duty free store, a restaurant, and poker machines on board, along with places to park your cars, and a huge lounge area that I think was MEANT to be for the first class passengers. Of course, any problems encountered when we attempt to exceed our positions on the social hierarchy are usually resolved with a ¨Me no speak Spanish¨ or similar response. I´m sure the hotel people simply shake their heads and say ¨He´s from Barcelona.¨ Or maybe from Queensland?
Once again, thanks to my useless Internet provider, I need to use this page for my family greetings. Happy birthday Mummy, for the 20th. And to Clare´s Mum for the 19th!
We return to Argentina tomorrow to overnight before our 12-hour haul to Mexico and the northern hemisphere the following day. Then I´m off to Cancun, and Clare will spend 7 days in her favourite activity - travelling by bus. Give us a few days and we´ll probably be writing again, and confusing the mapping feature of this blog by writing from different locations. These things need to be thoroughly user tested, don´t they?

Argentina adios, lets go Uruguay!
. As it happens, its been OK. The highlight has been finding a glow-in-the-dark Virgin Mary nightlight in a store window. Alas, it is yet another Latin American public holiday, and I am unable to buy this desirable item in anticipation of this year´s family Xmas presents.
