11th August 2005

Driving from doubtless bay we made our way up to the cape, first of all stopping off at Awanui to see the Kauri tree shop where a large tree was made into a staircase and the shop built around it, also it had a couch that cost $40,000 made out of 50,000 year old wood. It was impressive but not that comfortable. We drove up to Cape Reinga to see the lighthouse and to have our picture taken by a sign pointing to the uk, alas, vandalism strikes everywhere and the london sign had been broken off the post.

We drove back south to head to auckland via the Kauri forest where we stopped off to see Tane Mahuta, god of the forest, a large kauri tree. It was very big.
