We set off From Lake Tekapo after having a short walk around it and taking a few shots of the picturesque little church. Its the first lake we have seen and it has the classic bright blue appearance which is caused by the rock particles floating in the water and reflecting the suns light. Pretty impressive.
We went from Tekapo down to lake Pukaki, stopped off for a coffee at Twizel, and managed to come across some ancient Maori cave drawings just outside the town. Not very good artists the Maori. It was then onto Oamaru. We left the Cantebury region and had headed into Otago. At Oamaru we took time out to go and see the blue penguins, however it cost a fortune to see them and then we had to wait around for a few hours, so we went on a clifftop walk, then drove to Bushy beach to see the Yellow Eyed penguins, apparently quite rare, but free to see. We waited around for about 30 mins before the first one made an appearance. It was quite comical watching them try and right themselves once the tide had brought them into shore. We saw 4 of them in the end. They have a distinctive yellow mark above the eyes thus the name of yellow eyed pengiuns. Figures really doesn't it.

From Oamaru we made our way to Dunedin to camp for the night and to get a windscreen chip repaired.
