Land of the Long White Cloud
Trip Start Oct 04, 2004

With our Australia leg complete on our trip it was off to New Zealand. We grabbed our flight at 9am on Air New Zealand, making sure we used our "frequent flyer cards". Once on the plane we found out that the Air New Zealand crew had just called a strike so we were lucky to get on board and go.
We landed in Christchurch, NZ time of 2pm and we were greeted with a Haka chant from a group of locals. It was a very impressive welcome. We negotiated a deal with the campervan company at the airport and went to pick up our home and transport for the next 29 days. We went for a campervan with a toilet and shower as it was a good deal. We didn't expect the thing to be the size of a school bus. We made our way from the depot out to the supermarket to get our food for the next few days, spent about 2 hours trying to get out of Christchurch, and then headed off to Akaroa on the advice of the guy who sold us the campervan. It took about 2 hours of driving through some real crappy weather before we arrived, and we were greeted with.......darkness. We couldn't see a thing so we'd have to wait until the morning.
