Hamner to KaiKoura
Trip Start Oct 04, 2004

From our camp at the side of the road (where people like to drive by in the middle of their night and pip their horn as they think its funny, when it isn't) we drove ito the spa town of Hamner Springs. Here we took a nice long soak in one of their many natural thermal hot pools (they say natural but you're sat in a plastic swimming pool with lots of steam around you, didn't know that plastic formed this naturally). As some of the pools had been shut, we got half price entry. Probaly our 2nd bath in a year. You can have as many showers as you want but you cant beat a good soak. If you want to find the older generation of people in New Zealand then look no further. Due to the spa pools having certain qualities, you get a lot of old people clambering into the pools trying to regain their youth. Not a very pleasant sight. As we walked past one group of people we heard one of the elderly gentlemen comment that "the bubbles weren't caused by me, thats the thermals" yep, don't believe him.
We left the springs and moved to KaiKoura, booking a trip to see the sperm whales in the morning, and we then went to the seal sanctuary. Lots of New Zealand fur seals were around, lazing about in the sun and trying to dry off. We met a couple of people from scotland there so we joined them for a drink in the evening. Too many drinks. Not good when you're on a boat in the morning.
