18th June 2005

Took a day trip onto the Great Barrier Reef today. Sailed on a ship named Falla and spent the day snorkelling, a spot of diving, and visiting a sand kay named Upolo. Very nice. The water was nice and warm, the diving instructor was scarily like a young Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the crew were very friendly. Beck and Paul came along on the trip with us. We didn't see any turtles but a blue spotted lagoon ray, and yellow box fish were swimming around at the same time as us. We went to the Green Ant for dinner, where we met up with Terry, who we asked to join us for a spot of fishing on the Sunday

19th June 2005

We took a tin can boat up the estuary today in order to try our hand at a spot of fishing. Alas, the only thing we caught was sunburn, and Terry's crabbing line had the same prawn on it for the 4 hours we were out there. He said he felt as though he was "marinading" the prawn rather than using it as bait. Paul was at least a little bit luckier, at least he had his bait eaten off the hook.
We took the afternoon to book the rest of our trip down the east coast, sailing, camping, didgereedoo making....the works. It means we'll be leaving cairns in the next few days with our next stop being Mission Beach, but first we decided to go off to Cape Tribulation for a few days.
