Show trip route
First thing in the morning we grabbed our Amazing race hats, packed out things and headed for the campervan. The amazing race hats have a special place for us. Back in Sydney on a tuesday evening was a program called "The Amazing Race". It involved couples from the states racing around the world completing tasks in order to stay in the competition to win money. Each tuesday we would sit and watch the show and no doubt you would hear one of us saying "i've seen that" or "i've been there and they do this..". The Amazing race hats are a bit of a tribute as one couple in particular, who lost due to one blokes arrogance, wore dodgy hats. As a bit of a laugh we thought we'd carry on the tradition.
Once in the van it was off to Subiaco to pick up the fishing rods from Carol's uncle, and then back to Freemantle to get our packs and off we went
1st June 2005
I awoke around 6.30 whilst everyone else was asleep. Carol and Tom had bought earplugs as I apparently snore a little. I wandered along the beach where i was greeted with a great sunrise. Eventually everyone else arose from their pit around 9am. We got some food and had a bacon sandwich then walked along the jetty. Bussleton jetty is no ordianry jetty. It stretches out 2km into the Indian ocean and right at the end is a viewing area 8m below the sea. There is also a train that runs this jetty, but sods law, it wasn't running. We were looking at a 4km round trip, but it was worth it. We passed a fisherman who had caught a banded toadfish, a wonderful little fish that blows itself up when it gets nervous. He passed it to us to have a feel of it, it was surprisingly soft even though it had litle spikes on its body, and then we popped it back into the sea
