19th January 2005

Today I went diving! We met a couple, Dawn and Gary at Mrs Macs point when GMTV were there in december doing a live feed back to the UK (which no bugger at home was able to spot us on) so me and Gary went diving off Bondi beach. It was my first dive since Thailand so was a little nervous, plus, Gary is a little accident prone. He decided to light a fire when he was touring Oz and as it wasnt burning well, he decided to pump a bit of petrol on it from the big jerry can he had. Needless to say, the flame travelled up the can and set him and the rest of the area alight. Luckily he was ok, and managed to put everything out, but you can see why i was a little anxious. We buddied up and dove off North Bondi. The water was a little choppy to say the least, and instead of walking in, we had to jump off a rock. I couldnt sink as i didnt have enough weights on me. I had to add effectively 2 stone to my weight in order to sink!. Walking back up the hill afterwards, with the weight on, reminded me of how bad it must have been before i actually lost that amount. The visibility was a bit poor, but i managed to use the underwater camera housing i had bougght in Singapore for the first time. Got some good photo's as well. We didnt see much due to it being choppy but we did see an eastern fiddler ray which was well worth it. Gary did have a little accident. His BCD (inflatable jacket to you none divers) decided to have a mind of its own. The air hose got jammed to on, and he shot to the surface and vanished. We were all looking for him underwater, and he was right above us. Luckily it was a short depth or he could have got the bends with surfacing too quickly.

21st January 2005

We booked ourselves into one of the many open air cinemas that play over here in Oz. The setting was perfect, down at Mrs Mac's chair, we were sat in the open, with a view of the opera house and bridge in the background. The cinema screen rose up from just above the water, and we watched Wimbledon. The crowd were great, ad-libbing to some of the film scenes, and it was made all the more better as they served alcohol at the place.
