Today we went to another free concert that was held in the Domain. Symphony in the Domain is probably the most popular of all open air concerts, with well over 70,000 people crammed into the park. We got there early on, around 3ish in order to grab a good spot. We played frisby for an hour or two before the show finally got underway. The Sydney Philharmonic Orchestra were performing free of charge and the line-up they had was as follows:-

R STRAUSS Also Sprach Zarathustra (Theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey)
BELLINI Norma: Casta Diva
HOLST The Planets Saturn Mars
WILLIAMS E.T. Flying Theme
LEONCAVELLO Pagliacci: Stridano lassu
HOLST The Planets: Jupiter
TCHAIKOVSKY 1812 Overture.

To start things off though there was a competition whereby peole had to get up on stage in order to whistle "i come from a land down under" as to win a stupid amount of prizes. This started last week when we came to Jazz in the Domain, another free concert that played, surprisingly enough, Jazz. To be honest there were some absolutely skilled whistlers out there.

Nic and Rob, our new housemates came along with us, as well as Catherine, Liz, Mike, and John, two lads who we met at the William Hotel pub.

Once the music started, albeit after a little rain, we were eating good food and drinking good wine. The 1812 overture ended with cannons firing in time to the music, and Jupiter by Holst ws amazing. As an encore, the orchestra played the John Williams classic Star Wars. The whole of the domain went mad when it was announced. To hear it at the cinema is great, on a CD is just as good, but when it was played live by one of the worlds best orchestra's, well it takes your breath away, knocks your socks off, and any other saying that you can think of. Magnificent. Truly Magnificent. We all left the Domain with a smile on our face.
