After a long but not-as-bad-as-we-thought 12 hour flight from
Madrid we made it to Lima!  We had some fun getting from the
airport to our hostel.  The taxi we were supposed to get was a bit
late and another, very helpful, taxi driver phoned up the company and
sorted things out for us.  So we got into his taxi only for him to
be accosted by our original driver who had turned up.  After a
frank exchange of words (by which we mean a fight for our fare) we
had to change taxis and eventually got underway.

The area around the airport in Lima is not a nice place A church in Miraflores

taxi driver got us to lock our doors and close our windows and hide our
luggage.  Mmmmmm.  But in a short time we were taken to
our hostel in Miraflores (a well-to-do area in Lima) which is a very
nice part of town.  By the time we got there we were shattered so
we just went to our room and crashed.

The next day we got up very early so we could take a turn around
Miraflores and see what was what.  Something we noticed was the
strange birdsong.  This is a bit random but we really did notice
it and made us very aware that we were away from home.  But that
didnīt stop us running around town, taking in a few sights and going
for our first look at the Pacific Ocean.

Later that day we met up with our GAP group and we all got to know
each other over a Pisco Sour, the national drink.  It's a group of
four couples but we are the only honeymooners which we love.  We
were very lucky with the group and leader as they are all so friendly
and such good fun and our leader really knows his stuff.  So we
all went off for a good feed at a local resturant and then bed.
