After much discussion we decided not to pay $100 to see what's left of Hobbiton. The tour includes a farm tour and if they need to bulk it up it can't be that good. Apparently you need to use your imagination on this tour - our money could be spent better elsewhere. We can imagine LOADS of stuff without paying for it. Like right now we are imagining what we could do with $100 oh .... yeah that's good ... mmmm.....chicken curry and chips ... from the Chinese in Kilrea ...
Oh sorry about that. Imagination ran away with us there. Glad it didn't cost us, eh?Eh?! Anyhoo, we spent the morning doing lengths in the campsite pool then soaking in the hot thermal pools. It was a very healthy start to the day. We then drove down the road to visit Waireri Falls which are 150m high. It turned out to be a good old hike through a beautiful forest, clamberin' up rocks and climbing a 40m staircase. At the top we had a great view of the mist shrouded falls and our walk made the morning doubly energetic and healthy.
We darted into town for deli quiche and salad and we got the girl to heat them up for us by telling her that we lived in a van! After lunch we headed to Rotorua, stopping off at a crazy little town called Tirau (which means "many cabbages") to see giant corrugated iron structures. The artwork included grasshoppers, dogs, sheep and a shepherd which housed the info centre and mainly touristy shops. Apparently there is also a giant cow pushing a shopping trolley but unfortunately we couldn't find it as we were in a rush to get to Rotorua. Ah well, you can't win them all. More thumbnails ...
