A very exciting day today as we took a little boat across the bay to big sand dunes for a day of sand boarding . . . TO THE EXTREME! You may remember we first went boarding in the desert in Peru and we absolutely loved it so we jumped at the chance to try it again. It was great fun but unfortunately the dunes weren't as big as the ones in Peru so we didn't get the same adrenaline rush. We had got over our fear though so we took the chance to go as fast as we could stopping only at the very last second to avoid skimming on into the cold water which was rapidly coming in. Good mornings craic and we even tried sitting up on the boards which was much faster, but possibly not good for them as we noticed cracks underneath afterwards! Nothing like a pile of sand to bring out your inner child.
That afternoon we stopped of on our way to Orewa to see giant Kauri trees and got to check out the biggest and the widest Kauris in the world
Everyone knows we love our grub so you wont be surprised to hear our afternoon was planned around eating. We drove slightly out of our way to have a meal at one of the best restaurants in NZ but alas we arrived at that awkward time between lunch and dinner and had to settle for coffee and cake. The place was so cosy and comfy with a snuggly sofa and heater and loads of books and mags that we were tempted to stay for dinner but we dragged ourselves away and drove on to Orewa. Once there we treated ourselves to a delish Indian in a nice little restaurant then checked into our site for the night.
It was funny cos there were lots of oldies there and they were all partying away but the sandboarding and all that eating had taken it out of us so we just cosied up and watched Almost Famous on dvd.

01 - We pay for our pleasure
. The tallest is 2000 years old and 51 meters high and the widest had a diameter over 15 meters. They were really impressive and the surrounding trees looked so tiny and fragile beside them.
