After a big fry to keep us going we traveled by shuttle craft (known in this part of the galaxy as Budget Taxis) to the Auckland Space-station to rendezvous with our home for the next 47 days - the Spaceship Orion. We filled the ship with our supplies (the content of our backpacks plus free food and DVDs) and got under way to our first destination, Orewa. The ship handled well in its first outing but the warp-drive is automatic and sometimes it feels like a toy ship (to be honest it can be a bit annoying to drive - my kingdom for a manual). We arrived in Orewa and went into orbit around the tourist info centre when we discovered a problem - the spaceboot wouldn't lock. We tried all manner of things but with no luck. So we had to drive the 40Km back to Auckland, and guess what happened when we got there. yep the boot locked every time. Bum. So nothing for it but to head off again and when we got to Orewa this time everything was OK and we went for a walk around town and along the lovely beach. Lots of beautiful beachfront houses there and seems like a nice place to live.
On we trotted to a wee town called Warkworth where we had a quick stop to pick up T's favorite breakfast treat - honey - from a honey farm with glass hives allowing you to see all that is going on inside. Then on in near dark to our stop for the night, Pakiri, a small seaside village with a lovely caravan park right beside the beach. So we quickly set up our Spaceship, watched some TV and settled down to our first night in space.
