Yep, it's rough. We had taken our sea-sickness tablets but still the waves got the better of us. All day the waves were crashing at our window and our stomachs were not happy. T managed to get out of bed for dinner but when he brought some food back to the cabin for Sara it just made things worse. We spent most of the day in bed listening to lectures on the radio and the day was a complete loss.
But that night things got worse. The ship was rolling and pitching so much we were thrown across the cabin and we could hear crashes and screams from the kitchens. No sleep was to be had as we were thrown from one side of the bed to the other and from top to bottom. A couple of times T found himself practically standing on the wall. We found out later that this was the worst crossing they had had in a long time with 11 metre waves and the ship rolling to 30 degrees
In the morning we were still suffering but knew we only had a few hours until the Beagle so held on. T got up for lunch and we both made it to the disembarkation meeting. We felt better almost immediately on entering the Beagle Channel and had a final fantastic 5 course gourmet dinner with Joe and Mes and Antonio and then went to the forward lounge for a fancy auction. We bid $50 but quickly got outbid on Ush (the penguin mascot). It was all a bit out of our league so we donated $40 and bought a photo CD for charity (save the albatross).
We slept on the ship even though we were back in port (money saving started quickly) and ate as much buffet breakfast as we could. Said our goodbyes to everyone and all the staff who were absolutely fantastic (T especially liked his pirate buddy Beardy Chris) and got dropped back to the hostel. Can't believe we have to get off the ship and start looking after ourselves again, it's been so luxurious. Antarctica was a real honeymoon treat and we are so glad we went for it even if we will have to be careful with money from now on. It's going to be something we'll remember forever, especially the perfect day on the peninsula and will be without a doubt one of the absolute highlights of the trip. Just looking forward to getting back on the road and continuing on our honeymoon adventure. We're sure plenty more wonderful and unexpected places, people and experiences will come our way.

Whale of a time
Hello weanies, Loved reading about your Antartic adventures. Wonderful pics. Glad you're back on terra firma. Love Mom & Dad xo
Sea sick shocker!
I didn't realise that you guys got so sea-sick, especially you Tony. I thought you were practically invulnerable to that kind of thing - after all you did much better than me in the rollercoaster theme park in Holland.
Maybe it was all the frikadel speciaal you ate before-hand. You should have whipped up a batch of them for poor Sara instead of taking sea-sickness pills :D
Warning!
Just read all your Antarctic entries, I'm heading down there in a few weeks. Very interesting to read of your experiences. I'm definitely stocking up on the sea-sick pills, as even though I'm usually ok, this sounds like one time when it might be too much for me!
Thank you!
