After yesterdays traversal of Iceberg Ally - the ship had to negotiate a number of big bergs and at one point it was touch and go that we would get through the ice-chocked channel, we just had to push our way through the ice - we headed back out to the relatively open waters of the Bransfield Channel. On the way we were again joined by a small group of humpbacks that played with the ship for a while and got very close. We will never get tired of seeing these giants.
We were headed to our last stop, Halfmoon Island, for a last chance to say goodbye to the penguins but we had some close encounters with fur seal, Weddell seals and skuas too. It was a windy and cold day but nice to stretch our legs before the 2 day journey back to Ushuaia. The penguins didn't want us to leave any more than any more than we did and followed our zodiac back to the ship.
Back on board at the briefing we were told that our crossing home would be rough which started getting people worried. We had dinner and watched the last of the South Shetland Islands disappear behind us. We waved them goodbye and as soon as we finished our last bite we entered the Drake Passage, the waves hit us and we knew we were in for a rough ride.
