... friends

Where ARE we?

On a Thai island: Ko(h) Samui or Samui: Koh means island in Thai. It is an island off the south, east coast and is the third largest island in Thailand, with an area of 229 kmē and a population of 47.874. It is located 560 km from Bangkok. It is rich with natural resources, white sandy beaches, coral reefs and coconut trees.

Why Samui?

We wanted to go to a nice island, somewhere between Australia and Belgium. Since I already have been in Samui, we looked for something else. But: some of the islands had the wrong temperature. Others were too small. And already have being there, is not so bad: at least I know what to expect. We are staying in Chaweng.

Why did we choose Chaweng?

Yes, it is Blankenberge from Samui. But: Bankenberge with perfect tropical weather, huge beaches, lovely people and the best food in the world. And I thought it would suit the Tomcat better than Lamai, where I was before: too calm for him.

What have we been doing for 5 days?

Hmmmm: not much. But, we will. Soon. There are some nice attractions on the island. We will go diving and rent a car for a couple of days. I had some belly problems on the plane on our way and it is still not 100 percent OK. Nothing major. But, it is more comfortable to be close to a bathroom.
Dr T was surprised by the airport. A little train picks you up from the plane: it is like being in an amusement park! Our pick up ready, we are in the hotel 10 minutes later and ... we love it! We meet the owner, Horatio, who is ... French! We immediately get an upgrade to the hacienda. Which will be finished the day after.

We can also use the facilities of the sister hotel:

Corto is right on the beach, we have to cross the road.

We go for a big walk and Hubby finds ... a monkey. I do NOT approve of monkeys, chained to a pole. The monkey starts trusting Tony and climbs on top of his pole and jumps to him, knowing he will be caught. T gives him his sloefke and they both have a ball. The monkey hides behind a chair with T's sloefke and shouts at him, waving with his sloefke. Tony tries to grab him and the monkey laughs his head off. Before he goes to bed (the monkey, not Tony) he sits on his owner lap, gets a baby's bottle and falls asleep in his arms. We hear his story. He was found 4 months ago, with his dead mum next to him. Still a baby, eyes not open yet, less than a month old and starving. And, against the law, the owner decides to keep him. I do not know whether this is right or wrong but it is clear: this is a love affair.

I am happy that he T likes 'my' country. The hotel is amazing! Great colors, hundreds of vases and hi-tech in the rooms: a flat screen television, connected to the internet, the bathroom is cut of a designer magazine. Andy, the manager of the new hotel, is a lovely guy! We sort of take over the bar. Hubby connects his laptop to the bar music installation.

We meet Michela and Gabriele, a young Italian couple with whom we hang around for a day or two. We take a taxi together to Fishermen's village, between Chaweng and Bo phut. Where Gabriele has a HUGE lobster. And, yes, the food is nice but I still did not find my ideal place: it is all too fancy for me.

Until, last night: for the name, I will get back on it. It is in fact RIGHT next to our hotel but I do not know the what it is called. And THERE it happened: REAL Thai food. To our shame, we forgot the camera, cannot show you how we waited for our dinner, with our feet in the sea (remember, Broekske?) Never mind, we will be back, soon.

Plans for the day: none. We try to book diving for tomorrow: the side we want to go to is fully booked, so it will be for the day after.

Happy greetings from at the bar.
