Mossman is our choice for lunch: another dodgy pub.
We walk our lunch of in the Mossman Gorge.
And, we start the big drive. To where? We will see how far south we get today. This is highway nr 1 in Australia, THE highway. It is 2 lanes. In total! We post a card to my little niece and ... get distracted. And miss a turn. Since we do not have a map (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) we only realize after many, many kilometers: when the road ENDS... . We have NO idea where we are. Been there, done that, so many times. Still did not learn my lesson. BUY A MAP. No, there is one road, a highway, going south, let's save a couple of bucks and ... get lost, lose lots of time and fuel money. The 'detour' took us almost 2 hours, so there is no way of getting to Ayr (our goal) today. We are aiming for Innisfail, looks like a quite big city, 300 km from Ayr.
We arrive there around 17h and the motels are or full or overpriced! I do not feel like paying 100$ for a dump: I was expecting half! One does have internet but the room plus the internet adds up to 150$! We only need a bed for the night. Internet would be nice but not mandatory!
We go for the next city: Tully, which is 100 km away. Driving there, we pass by a caravan park/motel: the Digger Creek Motel in El Arish: huh??????????
Although, the motel directory says they do dinner till 19h30, the restaurant is closed at 19. BUT: no worries: there is a take away around the corner. We get fish and chips at something that looks like a Belgian frietkot: a caravan in a front yard. Lovely lady, who keeps on addressing Tony with 'love'. The fish is very nice. And our motel room less dodgy then I thought. When we dim the light, insects appear. We do not know where they come from or what they are. They crawl over the ceiling and the walls. We watch Remy, yes, Dr T too. We can do a perfect Remy by now. Girls: get prepared. You have to calculate 2 hours in to watch my favorite rat with me.
Next morning, we leave for Ayr. I picked up a brochure, which contains 5 hotels, all mentioning internet.
It is still POURING. We could as well be in Belgium!
See you in Ayr.
