Sipadan is the only oceanic island in Malaysia, rising 600m from the seabed. It is located in the Celebes Sea. It was formed by living corals growing on top of an extinct volcanic cone that took thousands of years to develop and is the centre of one of the richest marine habitats in the world. More than 3,000 species of fish and hundreds of coral species have been classified in this ecosystem. Rare diving scenes are frequently seen in the waters around Sipadan.
It is a bright, bright sunshiny day!!!
At 8h30, we are already on our way! We THINK the name of our dive master is Roger, but we are not sure. He is Malaysian and unfortunately, his English is not so good and his accent difficult to understand.
Our diving mates for the day: Joel (American, lives in China), Paola (Italian), Sarah and Nicci (British), Michael and Laura (Dutch). I cannot gossip about those people because I gave them our website. Otherwise, I would surely say that Laura is so pretty, she could be a model (for all we know, she is) and that Joel is a friendly, outgoing guy: chats to T going and to me coming back. And, as you see, it is international again. Owan (do not know how to spell this) is our video man for the day, also dive master. Laura is the only none diver: she fainted yesterday after a dive and decides to skip it for today.
The first dive site is Barracuda Reef.  We see a turtle and a shark within the minute, so our dive is already a success.  But, this is only the start: puffer fish, leave fish, groupers, angel fish, eel, lion fish, Australian kissing fish, more sharks and turtles, Tony´s size. We know: Sipadan is NOT going to disappoint us! We go to Sipadan Island for our surface interval where we see a couple of giant lizards and meet a tomcat.
Second dive: South Point: T finds a turtle even before diving! More sharks, turtles, puffer fish, ... .
Lunch back on the island: the little pussy cat likes my tuna.
Coral Garden is the 3rd dive site.  We find 6 huge turtles, as many sharks, a couple of colorful nudibranches (worms), schools of bat fish and like the name suggests, lots of nice corals.
Sarah has a head ache after the last dive and gets a massage from our film director/dive master.
We ALL see each other at 19h in the pub, where Owan will show our today´s movie.
We are only back at 17h and the `after diving´ work takes a while. First you have to rinse and pack up the diving equipment, then rinse the camera case, dive computers, t-shirts, swim suits, ... . And then: a long shower to rinse off the salt. I also make a selection of the pictures we took today to show the dive buddies and send them afterwards, if they want to. We have to hurry to be there at 19h!
Joel comes in right after us with Annie, his girlfriend. Slowly, everybody arrives and the movie is received with a lot of enthusiasm. I think everybody bought it (which is very exceptional), even us (which is exceptional too). We get everybody´s email address to send our pictures to. Unfortunately, nobody dives tomorrow, just us.
Often, the afterparties from the dive are almost as nice as the diving, always a lot of stories to exchange. To my surprise, everybody is gone by 21h! Tired after a day of diving, I guess. The youth is not as tough as us, old fogeys.
