Lost day in paradise

We decide to start our day spending a couple of hours on internet. We pack our computers and head for Victoria. We enter the internet café at 10h30 and leave at 16h!!!!!
Still, we did not establish so much! The internet is slow. Our mailbox is full. I have a mail from my personnel director, telling me my papers for my 'leave without pay' extension have been sent the 17th of September. Nothing was received in the Passiewijk: what now? I call Mauritius: we stay over a night between the Seychelles and Madagascar. We called twice, sent a mail and there is no confirmation. I call. It is a public holiday, call back tomorrow.
Yes, but, I only need to know ... . No, there is no info, it is a public holiday.
I cannot figure out my AmEx bill. The paper copies were clear: to be paid: X, paid thank you OR not paid, pay ASAP. Electronically it is a puzzle.
We do not know where we go in Madagascar yet. We land in the capital: Antananarivo (who invents a name like that?). Dr T suggests: stay 2 nights there and go to a local travel agency to book: Nosy Be, which is an island, bigger than Mahé and the diving should be very good. Madagascar is very primitive, roads are almost none existing and very dangerous. If you rent a car, it comes with a driver. Big parts are strictly Muslim. I find an attractive hotel in Antananarivo and call. In Madagascar, we are back to French, thank God, like in Mauritius, everybody speaks it. Here not. I have a nice, efficient man on the phone, perfect French. Yes, there is place, 100 Euro/night (ouch). I send a mail, get an immediately auto response and a confirmation within half an hour. I already like Madagascar.
At 14 o'clock 5 kids come in and ... stay. Lots of noise. Half an hour later the whole place is full of children! Dr T says 2 of them rented a game boy (racing car noises), the rest is screaming and running.
When we leave at 16h, I am very nervous and cranky. On top of that, we cannot withdraw money. I do not want to go anywhere anymore but home.
We shop for some food for tonight. In the only shop on Mahé, which has FRESH meat. You can coice whatever you want, as long as it is chicken. Chicken pieces, chicken bits (including the legs and livers) or chest. Chest it is. Just before the men wraps it, he sneezes twice, wipes his hand on his pants and keeps on wrapping. I just want to RUN out. But I gave Tomcat already a hard time being so cranky, so I stay. Still do not want to eat this, though. It is 17h when we come home. We play cards (luckily I win, otherwise someone would have lost an arm), have dinner (yes, THAT chicken and it is actually very nice) , watching our video.
Then: packing time! We move tomorrow. With pleasure. Debra is nice but I want A/C, a double bed instead of 2 little beds shuffled together, a shower which works, a house free of creepy crawlies, a swimming pool, access to a restaurant if I want to, yes a bit of luxury!
