Nor the website, nor any tourist book does justice to this museum, located in the north of the island: region Pamplemousses. I saw hundreds of museums, all over the world and this was AMAZING. Whoever designed this museum deserves a statue. It waves the history of the sugar plantations into the history of Mauritius. Even more: it starts with the world history from the 15th century (when the sugar harvest started) till the 20th. One wall summarizing the most important happenings, dates and people of 6 centuries. But the most impressive of the museum was the variety. It is a sugar factory, which was still in production in 1999. It has movies, pictures, newspaper articles, detailed descriptions of the sugar making procedures through the centuries and all the machines are still there. A little example:  there is a reclining mirror outside, in which you can see the whole chimney in one glance! It ends in tasting the sugar and the rum made of it. We spent 3 hours there, exclusive the restaurant, where I had ... crème brûlée. In a beautiful garden.

We drove off in our fancy sports car to ... get lost! But the scenery is amazing. And this is just a random picture out of the driving car.

My message: if you come to Mauritius: go to l'aventure du sucre.

It made me think of making a list of my top 10 museums ever. All over the world.

This one would be in the top 10.

And the Peggy Guggenheim in Venice.

Magritte's 'Empire of Light', need I say more?????????????????

And the MoMa in New York.

I have been travelling for 20 years, spent months in New York and Thailand and ... .

One day, one day, my website will contain all my travels.

One day ... .
