Power cut at 2.00am just as Hels going to loo....not funny. In room next to Hotel kitchen so a bit noisy....awake early. Breakfast was nice crusty rolls, two fried eggs and coffee....just about thick as treacle, and Hels tea had evaporated milk. Went for a walk then to travel agents and booked luxury cruise in Halong Bay...Hels decided to use her money for her 50th Birthday from her two brothers and sister........she made me pay for myself!! Also booked train ticket to Da Nang for Sunday...overnighter. Went shopping for absolute essentials....Hels bought some shoes , two silk blouses and a shoulder bag. Hels also made me buy a pair of sandals to ease her conscience. In the afternoon we walked around the lake in town . Nice walk as only had to cross road twice...we used a pedestrian crossing for the first time BUT learnt quickly that those red lights mean absolutely nothing..... Survived to have nice meal in restaurant overlooking the street....you know that we both love to people watch. Had booked up to go to Water Puppet theatre so wandered the streets and found an outside bar with two bar stools. Had a beer and then Craig and his mate who we had last seen in Xi'an strolled across the road .When we shouted at them they were really surprised to see us as they had only just arrived. Had a beer and catch up but had to leave to go to theatre..... Puppet theatre was very interesting especially as it was all in Vietnamese but the local people sitting behind us almost wet themselves....so must have been funny commentary. Well worth a visit and peanuts to get in
