To the Beach

Up late and had a late breakfast. Another couple have definitely arrived and they are from Croatia. When we tried to chat to the man at breakfast we could only ascertain that he works in China and that this is a 10 day holiday for them. Let's hope it gets busier for them.
We sorted out our swimming gear and left to get the bus. This actually meant waiting at reception till the bus arrived at 10.45am for the 10 minute ride to shopping area.
One of the nicest features of Nusa Dua is the 5km stretch of beach which has a promenade along its length. It is a good stroll along the prom and enables you to view all the other beachside resorts and buy a bracelet or fresh fruit from the beach vendors
The shopping area is called Bali Collection. In the guidebooks it is said to be too secure and is in an isolated area but we found it to be an interesting place to walk around. It is an area of all sorts of large and small shops, restaurants and usually some street entertainment. We met one poor man who was giving away cards that could give you free gifts, which we knew meant a pressure selling interview somewhere close. If Tony had gone he would have won 2 T-shirts but Helen won …..wait for it…..you will never guess….The Star Prize!!!! It was a shame because if we had gone to the presentation our man would have got 50$ US and he was almost pleading and could not understand why we would not go.
Tony also visited Starbucks for his sins while Hels had a back massage as she is still suffering silently!!
We then went to the beach and watched a hundred schoolkids on a trip, enjoy a paddle and get ready for games on the beach. We walked to the far end of the beach and settled down and had a swim in the very very warm sea……it was lovely
At one of the hotels the security guards even checked under the van with a mirror.....probably not needed but then again Bali has been targeted before by terrorists and we should not forget that.
We got back, chatted to our reception staff and then had a quick dip in the pool and then our private pool before getting ready for our meal out this evening.Hels had spotted a really good restaurant and they come to collect you and return you, all free of charge.
The restaurant was in Tanjung Benoa and has quite a reputation. It was Bali's first International standard authentic Balinese restaurant and was designed in keeping with the architectural principals of traditionalBalinese home compound. They say that Bumbu Bali (its name) "...guides you on a journey into the many culinary treasures the island paradise has to offer."
It really does. It was absolutely packed and the staff were great, even stopping us ordering too much. We had a set meal for one person and one extra main dish, which in hindsight we did not need. It was a fabulous combination of meats, fruits, sauces and spices galore. Highlight, even though we were really full was the Black Rice pudding (for Hels) and Sticky Dumplings (for Tony).
Rolled into bed after giving reports of our night out to two lads on reception and the gate keeper. They are so friendly and one of the lads even gave us a map book and he had written out some details of places to visit....nice lad who fell for "The smile of Hels"
