As the Lonely Planet says, the tours organized by the hotel are quite cheap, so I have decide to join one to visit a few things scattered around Amman: some mosaiques in Madaba where one can play Indiana Jones, Mt. Nebo where Moises first saw the Promised Land (and suffered a fatal seizure, as after 40 years wandering around the desert and eating bitter bread, he was rather disappointed on what he saw from the top of the mountain, it was not quite what he expected), the Jordan river (which is roughly 2 meters wide, it doesn't carry much water but too much history and tension) and the place where Jesus was baptyzed (the Bible sites are quite exploited on both sides of the Jordan river). The only interesting visit was the Dead Sea where we took a short bath on those waters that have miraculous effects on the skin and muscles (the list is quite long so I am not going to bore anyone with an exhaustive list). Everything one knows regarding the Dead Sea is true: one floats, one has to swin backwards and can not get very far from the beach otherwise the guards start shouting at you, one can not play water battles as first, the guards will shout to you, and then and even louder (even getting close to physical violence) your warmate as a tiny water drop in one's eyes feels like acid, and it is better to drink bottled water than try to show off and try what is the taste of a water with such a rich mineral content. The most curious is to see how boys and girls use seggregated beaches, where boys swim with underwear of bath suits, and girls fully dressed (usually in their street outfit, or for those who don't want their dresses wet, they can rent some burka-like bath suits).

I share the taxi with a couple of americans that can be qualified as professional backpackers. It is already their 3rd year traveling around the world, and they don't expect to finish it until end of 2010. Compared to them, my 9 months trip is rather short. After the tour, I have suggestions and advices for all the countries I am going to visit, which I will most likely make use of as they look like the sort of people that know how to do a trip like this.

viatges llargs i massa llargs ...
no t'acomplexis 'pequeño saltamontes'
