Where I stayed
Well i am home finally but still wanted to share with everyone the last 2 stops on my trip, so here's the first.
San Francisco was a really nice city. It was just as beautiful as you see it in pictures or in movies. It was truly lovely to visit. However, our hotel wasn't near Fisherman's Wharf or Pier 39 which is a main tourist area, so we saw alot of homeless people laying in front of stores or gathered together. Let me just say it was a real shock to mum and nan, but i was used to it by now, so i saw quite alot worse than san fran had to offer with its homeless.
We got in early about 11am and settled into our hotel soon after that. It was a really nice day, and from the minute we left the hotel you could just feel that you were in a unique city. It just felt so much different to the other cities i visited so that was a good thing to be in a city where the air smelt fresh. Maybe beacuse they have a huge bay area is why it was like that but honestly it woke me up from being tired since we had to leave our Vegas hotel at 6am for our 9am flight
So, we set off to explore San Francisco, we did notice very quickly that there were alot of hills so you had to really watch where you walked or you could have 4 hills in each direction surrounding you and your only choice would be to walk up one of them :) But it was nice to see all that anyway.
We walked toward Alamo Square, where the famous row houses are that are seen in shows like full house and so much more...they are real icons of san fran. So it was really nice to see them. Mum and nan were tired from walking so they sat down for a bit but it was nice to just sit there are look at the houses and even more to see the city of san fran behind them it was truly beautiful. However, it was so windy up there it really was, but still a lovely day regardless. I really enjoyed seeing them. After that we went back to the hotel and ate and relaxed so it was nice.
The next day we did what any tourist would do...we rode the cable car. Our hotel wasn't far from the end of the line on Powell st so it was pretty easy to get up to Fisherman's Wharf from down here. We had to wait in line cos there was alot of people being the start of the day but we got on quick enough and i was very excited to hang on the the side like i always saw them do in the movies so that was really cool to do for myself. Mum and nan were too scared to do it, but mum did it the later on so it was pretty safe and easy to do as she finally realised
When we got there there were heaps of people around. We walked across the bridge to the other side, but nan went 3/4s and went back and waited for us to finish. It was a long walk when we had to walk back cos you knew how long the walk had been to get to the end, but it only took about 30mins i guess to walk back along it so it wasn't too bad. Mum and nan had bought these big coats though for winter and were carrying them up and back so they were pissed about doing that but they will never do it again obviously :)
We caught a bus and then another bus back to our hotel and ate and relaxed again in our hotel after a long day and evening out. But it was a good day.
The next morning we had tickets to Alcatraz, so we caught the cable car at 8.30am and were at pier 33 by 9.30, cos we had to walk from where the cable cars stopped but it wasn't a big one so it wasn't too bad.
There were heaps of people going to Alcatraz, but once we got on the island you could go where you wanted, so it wasn't busy even though heaps of people were arriving every 30mins on the ferry
It was about 1pm when we left on the ferry and went back to san fran.
We had lunch at a really nice italian restaurant where we had a view of the bay and golden gate bridge and below us was a dock where a few boats were and hundreds of seals were laying on the dock sunning themselves, it was an amazing sight if you can believe the photos.
We walked around san fran for abit more and then went back to the hotel so nan could relax. Mum and i then went to lombard st, and walking up the hill to get to that was pure torture...it was harder than any hill i've walked up before. But we finally got up there and took some pictures and enjoyed the sight of that, then i wanted to see a few movie locations so we saw the street in the wedding planner where the dumpster comes towards Jennifer Lopez (don't laugh it was great to stand there) and then we caught a taxi to broadway and steiner, where the mrs doubtfire house is, and saw that...it was so surreal being there in front of that house cos ever since i saw that movie years ago i loved that house, so it was awesome to see that
The house used in the tv show party of five was also a few houses past the mrs doubtfire one which was weird but so cool to see that, and then we walked a few blocks only downhill not up which was good for mum :) and saw the house used in full house, which was amazing to see in the flesh let me tell you. After that we caught the bus home and had this psycho lady who could have been homeless but she was clearly crazy and she was yelling at the bus driver about something then laughing and being nice to him it was bloody weird and scary. We had to walk a few blocks to the hotel and it freaked mum and me out cos the homeless were out in force but we made it back to the hotel which was good and we could finally relax.
So all in all san francisco was a great place to visit but staying up near fisherman's wharf would have been alot safer and cleaner so next time i'd be staying up near there.
It's good to be home!!
