Where I stayed
Well Saturdays are always dictated by football and it turned out today that Everton were on at 2:45pm local time. Kinda right in the middle of the day for doing anything useful. Seen as how I'm in Finland until the 8th November I decided to use this weekend as a "mini-explore weekend".
My training has been going appallingly so I decided to go for a run round one of the bits of the lake here in Jyvaskyla. I would heartily recommend it, its peaceful, clean, safe and not too far at about 9-10km all the way around. I'm unfit though, so it hurt a lot. Still the views were sensational and its something I'll be doing a lot while I'm here.
Sunday consisted of a wander up from the hotel to Harju which is an area of the town raised up above the centre. The views from the (free to enter) viewing tower are worth the trip up there. Its not exactly new or, actually that clean, but the views are why you go up there I guess, nothing else! There is also a Natural History Musuem in here but it was a few euros to get in and from the outside it appeared to all be in Finnish! I'm sure there is a guidebook though lol.
I also explored a bit more of the town and grabbed a bite to eat at a pretty cheap and friendly pizza place. 7 euro for a decent sized pizza with 4 kinds of meat on it - my kind of place!!
Things I did
Ran round the "large" lake - A
Peaceful, safe and flat. Do it.
Visited Harju Park and the viewing tower - A
Free, great views and only 5 mins walk or so from the hotel. No complaints here.
Had some grub at Ali Baba's Pizza place - B
Pizza and a large coke for 10 euros. Don't mind if I do. Big pizza actually, took half of it home!
Well next weekend I'm off to Tallinn but the weekend after I'm hoping to take the trip down to Tampere for the day, so we'll see what that has in store!
