It involves floating down the river in a tractor inner tube being pulled in by bamboo poles to frequent the bars that are all along the waters edge. You can also throw yourself off a rope swing into the river.
You HAVE TO start drinking at 10.30am and if your lucky yo make it down the 4km and back before dark and the cold sets in.
Neil and Tanya were here last month, Neil bust his ankle from landing on rocks from a rope swing - the water was too shallow and they got there camera wet and broke it. We were determind to survive with all bones and machinery intact! We only did the rope swings after somebody else did them first and tom was really good keeping the camera dry....on the first day. It was so much fun and very surreal - the scenery was amazing and the all day drinking so much fun! The next day - nursing sore heads tom decided to do some rock climbing (brave boy!).
I felt sorry for myself and ate ice creams (I won a free one!!).
But yesterday we had recovered enough to go tubing again - tom hit the bottom of the river bed off a rope swing and banged his foot - its ok its only a little bruise and the so called 'dry bag' we hired leaked and the camera got very wet!! I knew we were pushing our luck! We have had SO many problems with this camera but I am rather impressed with it now - we dried it out and it seems to work ok! (as soon as I wrote that the camera started playing up!)
Also it couldve been a whole lot worse TRI's (tubing related injuries) we came across:
1. two girls let go of a rope swing together, 1 - broken arm, 1 - cut head
2. guy with cut foot after he stood on a beer bottle
3. guy with stitches in his hand after he touched a boat propeller
4. at least two people on crutches!
I probably shouldnt put this in the blog, i dont mean to worry you all - but im just trying to prove that we are actually quite sensible (i mean who grabs a boat prop, honestly!) and maybe we werent actually that drunk...!
Moving on tomorrow, you ll be glad to know - no more tubing!
Maybe i can squeeze one more ice cream in though.
We were quite shocked when we arrived to find a deserted town filled with bars and restaurants, episodes of friends blaring out and western food on every menu. Couldnt even find any chopsticks! But we settled into it and even enjoyed a pizza and a burger (not bad)! The main reason people come here is to tube (thats why it was deserted during the day). Its nothing rude!
